Frequently Asked Questions:

Can anyone go kayaking?

Anyone ages 3+ can go kayaking (minimum weight requirement: 35 pounds). Flat-water kayaking is accessible to all ages, sizes and fitness levels.

What if I've never gone kayaking before?

Flat-water Kayaking is perfect for beginners as well as advanced paddlers. It is easy to learn and after a few minutes of instruction from our staff, you will be equipped to head out onto the river and enjoy the city from a whole new vantage point.

Do I need a reservation?

No. Walk-up rentals are ongoing, so come on over anytime! If you have a big group and want to request a time to make sure kayaks are available, you can request a time by calling (412) 969-9090 for Kayak Pittsburgh Downtown, and (724) 935-1968 for Kayak Pittsburgh North Park.

Is kayaking physically strenuous?

Kayaking is like riding a bike; you can get in a great workout or just relax and enjoy the scenery.

What should I wear?

Whatever you're comfortable in! While you should not expect to get excessively wet, your paddle will drip a bit as you move along the river. Layers are usually best - be prepared for direct sunlight or a cool breeze. All boaters must wear a personal floatation device at all times, so try not to wear a sweater or jacket that is excessively bulky.

How long can I paddle?

Minimum rental is one hour. Kayaks can be rented for additional 1/2 hours or for the full day - stay out as long as you like! We will be open until the end of October.
